Deion Sanders has particularly kept an eye on all the negative coverage surrounding him. He has kept his receipts from time to time which is very noticeable through his press conferences just as the one that took place early in August where he refused to answer any questions from The Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler.
What followed was something no one saw coming. On the morning of August 23rd, the Buffs football program informed The Denver Post that Coach Prime and any other member of the program would no longer take any questions from their columnist.
The reason cited for the sudden ban was a “series of sustained, personal attacks” on Coach Prime such as calling him a “false prophet,” “Bruce Lee of B.S.,” “circus,” and a few more. For Deion, this was crossing a line that he meticulously drew from the media.
However, it was CU’s bold decision to stand by Coach Prime that kicked a storm among media professionals as many writers, columnists, editors, and radio show hosts from different outlets voiced their opinions on the ban of their fellow media personnel.
Media Members Up In Arms Against Coach Prime
Deion’s decision to not take questions from Sean Keeler was widely criticized but when the program itself banned the columnist, it stirred an uproar from the media community.
Several members of The Denver Post stood up for Sean Keeler calling out CU’s drastic measures as an attempt to handle the free press.
While members of other outlets also chimed in to call out Coach Prime and his program.
Although the media world took a firm stance on Prime, many backed Deion for personal attacks directed towards him which were deemed unethical.
Meanwhile, Sean Keeler has continued his generational run on X after being denied any answers from the CU football program. When asked what according to him would be a successful season for Coach Prime, he suggested a season with seven wins would be optimum for the team.
Why Deion Sanders Refused To Answer CBS?
Although Deion’s beef with the media has escalated to new heights, The Denver Post wasn’t the only outlet he refused to answer during his press conference early this month. He also denied taking any questions from the CBS reporter named Eric Christensen but this time it was not directed towards the reporter personally but the news outlet he works for.
“I’m not doing nothing with CBS,” Deion said to the reporter. “Next Question. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. I got love for you. I appreciate you. I respect you. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. They know what they did.”
Some had speculated that it was because CBS Sports ranked Deion as the second-worst coach in the Big 12. But citing On3’s Phillip Dukes, Stephen A. took his fans back to the time when Deion still worked for CBS. He said,
“A reporter who happened to be a brother had a story that they were working on. The story was about to come out when the information was accumulated. The brother was taken off the story according to people close to Deion Sanders. And in return, it was given to somebody who was white. Prime Time Deion Sanders had a problem with that.”
Deion also responded to Phillip Dukes’ take, suggesting the theory was in fact true.
“Thank u my brother for keeping some things unspoken. We love it when they ASSume. Lolololol The insanity is better than Sanford & Son at times,” Prime tweeted.
Additionally, Deion was true to his words when he told the CBS reporter that there was nothing personal between them. In fact, he works closely with CBS News Colorado’s sports anchor Romi Bean, who hosts the weekly podcast ‘Coach Prime’s Playbook with Romi Bean’ where Prime is a regular guest.
The podcast is streamed on Romi’s YouTube channel and is not a CBS project in any way. This shows how much Deion values journalists and holds high regard for reporters who set their personal biases aside.
