“I Can Remember My Stepfather”: Deion Sanders Recalls Incidents From Childhood That Scarred Him For Life

Deion Sanders is one of the toughest and most dominant figures in the sports world. His dual sport professional career is the perfect testament to his character, determination, and tough he can be. but as it appears even the toughest of personalities have scars in their lives that they cannot heal so easily.

In one of his latest vlogs on YouTube, via Well Off Media, Coach Prime revealed one particular incident involving his stepfather Willie Knight, and mother Connie, that haunts him even to this day.

“I can remember my stepfather,” Prime narrated. “I think I had to be six or seven, or maybe eight, something like that. But we went to one of the amusement parks, and on the way back we were going down one of the back roads, and they saw a turtle crossing the road. And I’m in the back seat you know, just my mom and stepdad and me in the back seat, and they slowed down and stopped the car and I was just sitting up there saying to myself, ‘I know it ain’t about to go down what I think is about to go down.’ And it went down.”

Someone who knows Deion, knows that he is a big animal lover. He could never see an animal get hurt let alone see it on his dinner plate after he just watched it alive and well.

Deion added: “He got out, grabbed that Turtle, put that turtle in the trunk, and they had turtle soup. I’m like ‘Dawg! Come on man.’ I can’t eat nothing that I’ve seen. That’s why I’m scarred for certain things like turtles as well as possums, coons like raccoons. I used to see a whole-skinned raccoon in the sink. Do you understand what that would do to a kid seeing a raccoon that was skinned?”

Being the animal lover that Deion is, one can only wonder what he might have felt after seeing skinned animals in his kitchen. Coach Prime certainly craves the love of animals, which he gets through his pet dog Gunner Sanders when he is at home.

Despite his love for animals, there is one reptile that he fears the most, snakes. He has been pranked on screen not one but two times using snakes.

Once when he appeared on Running Wild with Bear Grylls, where the British adventurer, Bear, chased Deion with a snake in his hand and the NFL legend was literally running for his life due to his fear of snakes.

The other time was when Deion (a Yankees player at the time) was with his veteran teammate Mel Hall and neither of them had the idea that they were getting pranked by the MLB legend Jay Johnstone.

Deion got a jumpscare when he was told to open the basket in front of him only to learn that there was a live snake inside it. Prime took off and ran for his life while laughing at the fact that he was pranked on screen.

Deion Sanders Has Been Appreciative Of His Influential Stepfather

Despite the few instances when young Deion hated the choice of food of his parents, his stepfather Willie Knight has been one of the biggest influences that he has had in his life.

Prime makes sure to celebrate both his fathers, Mims Sanders (biological father), and Willie Knight (stepfather) for the love that they have given him.

Deion’s values as a present father and a disciplinarian parent also come from his relationship with his parents. He understands how much he can shape the lives of his kids and he makes sure to make the most out of it.

While on the other hand, Prime’s relationship with his mother has been as wholesome as it can get. But it’s certain that he has developed his strength from a very young age.
