The Buffs emerged victorious in the Folsom Field against NDSU however it wasn’t an easy win for them. Deion Sanders addressed the same right at the opening of his post-game press conference. Prime gave a fair assessment of the game to the pool of reporters which didn’t include Sean Keeler for obvious reasons.
Although the energy of the press conference did not come close to Prime’s TCU presser from last season, but the media beef was still a fresh memory for the reporters and the head coach.
In Keeler’s place, Columnist Troy Renck represented The Denver Post, who was curious about Deion’s measures to keep Shedeur safe when the time was running out.
Deion Sanders’ Interaction With Keeler’s Replacement
During his first post-game press conference of the season, Deion was ecstatic about the show put forth by Shedeur and Travis. But what put a big smile on his face was when Troy Renck from The Denver Post introduced himself before asking his question.
“Coach, Shedeur obviously had a huge game,” Troy asked. “Was there a moment during the game where you had to remind him to either slide or be more careful?”
Prime, who was smiling cheek to cheek, interestingly stated that he was more worried about Shedeur burning the time. He mentioned that the young QB is smart enough to make decisions on his safety but it was the time that he needed to remind him of.
Troy then followed up with the question of whether Shedeur and Travis create plays that have not been coached before. Impressed by the duo’s gameplay at the matchup, Deion replied, “They got their own little thing going on. I ain’t mad at it because it works.”
Although it appeared as if Coach Prime was going to spare the media with the beef topic, but by the end of the presser Deion did remind the reporters how “some of you are upset that we got a W. Some of you really mad we didn’t get to hell. So God bless y’all. You have to wait again till next week.”
However, Sean Keeler too was vocal about the beef on a podcast appearance just a day before.
Sean Keeler Speaks Up On His Beef With Deion Sanders
Days after being banned from asking Deion any questions, Sean Keeler appeared on the Mile High Sports podcast to talk about his side of the story in detail.
He stated how during his exchange with Prime a few weeks ago, he tried to diffuse the situation but Coach Prime wanted to call him out publicly. Keeler stated that he could back his name-calling such as “circus” which he clarified did not have any racial tone to it.
“I’m the same guy who called Jeff Bridich, a coward, and Steve Addazio, a bully,” he said. “I think that’s fair if you accuse me of some name-calling, I think that’s fair. Is it fair to insinuate that it’s not related to a job and not related to job performance? No, because that’s all I’m judging in my job as a columnist.”
Sean further added that Coach Prime’s reaction against CBS, the Associated Press, and himself was a result of the reports published by Athlon Sports.
“That was his first chance to get in front of the microphone when that happened,” Sean said. “And I think there was some resentment to the body in general because that’s often how we’re seen to this Athlon thing to be clear. That was still fresh before any of this came along and I know the university is really struggling with that.”
Prime has certainly dodged a bullet after sneaking a win in his season premiere, but it will be seen if the media backfires at him after a losing game.
