Stephon Gilmore could be on the move ahead of today 4 p.m ET NFL trade deadline. Should a team wish to acquire the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, it will cost them.
Multiple teams have called the Patriots to gauge the asking price of Gilmore and New England wants a first-round pick and a player in exchange, according to ESPN’ Dianna Russini.
This could be a deal-breaker for some teams as that is a steep price to pay. Gilmore will become an unrestricted free agent after next season, so the price to pay for a contending team would be worth it, and then perhaps they could sign Gilmore to an extension.
Gilmore will be a cap hit of just over $17 million in 2021.
It’s not every day that a reigning Defensive Player of the Year is traded away, but if the Patriots get what they desire, a trade of this magnitude could go down.
