Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa

The Dolphins will turn to No. 5 overall pick Tua Tagovailoa after their bye week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Ryan Fitzpatrick will serve as the team’s No. 2 quarterback.

Following their bye, Miami faces the Los Angeles Rams at home in Week 8. The Dolphins then have tilts against the Cardinals (away), Chargers (home), and Broncos (away).

Tagovailoa, who was in the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft before injuring his hip last season, saw some snaps in the Dolphins blowout win over the Jets this weekend. He mostly handed the ball off but threw two short passes, completing them both for a total of nine yards.

“He got under duress and made an accurate throw. He sat in the pocket on third down and made a throw for a first down,” offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said (via Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com). “Those are positives. Those are real positives. For a guy that hasn’t played a snap, those are real positives.”
