Christian McCaffrey is eligible to come off of the short-term injured reserve this week but no decision has been on his status, according to head coach Matt Ruhle (h/t Steve Reed of the Associated Press).
McCaffrey will undergo a series of tests on his high ankle sprain today and the team isn’t putting a timeline on a comeback for their talented back. His injury, which occurred in Week 2, was originally projected to be a 4-to-6 week injury. That, along with the team’s hesitation to provide a timeline, indicates that McCaffrey won’t be ready for Sunday’s tilt with the Bears.
Mike Davis performed admirably in McCaffrey’s absence. The 27-year-old running back has 351 total yards and five touchdowns during his three starts in place of the former top-10 pick.
