Eagles left tackle Jason Peters is being placed on Injured Reserve after an MRI revealed a toe injury that will take several weeks to heal, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. Peters was out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday with an illness. Upon returning, he felt discomfort in his foot.
Either Jordan Mailata or rookie Jack Driscoll will be used at left tackle on Sunday. Mailata has only played 20 regular-season snaps during his NFL career and Driscoll started at right tackle in Week 1.
There’s a chance that the team eventually opts to use Lane Johnson as the permanent left tackle, though that change won’t occur before Sunday night’s tilt with the 49ers. Philadelphia is 0-2-1 on the season.
