This one is being tabbed as the “Trevor Lawrence Bowl,” as the loser will be well on their way to obtaining the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Almost every team in the league has been having injury troubles, but these two teams never had the depth on their rosters to absorb the injuries that have been presented to them.
The Broncos have lost their top receiver, top rusher, and not one, but two quarterbacks. Vic Fangio’s squad will be starting an undrafted quarterback, Brett Rypien. He’ll attempt to light a spark, as the offensive production just hasn’t been there this season for Denver. Could the New York Jets defense be just what this offense needs?
The Jets have one of the worst rosters that a professional football team has ever presented. Sam Darnold has looked terrible this season without any offensive support. The Jets rank last in almost every defensive category. They’ve been blown out in every game this season without much of a chance of winning a game at any point. If this Jets team gets beat tonight, it may be the end of the Adam Gase era in New York.
This one should be a tough watch. Let’s see if some wagers can at least make this watchable…
Sam Darnold Under 227.5 Passing Yards (-112)
Darnold has thrown for 215, 179, and 168 yards, respectively, in the first three weeks. The only week that went over 200 yards included a broken play that went for 69 yards and a touchdown to Jamison Crowder. It will help to have Crowder in the lineup tonight. The Denver defense, although ravaged by injury, may be the most complete unit on the field at any point tonight and Sam Darnold will have a hard time completing passes against this secondary.
Sam Darnold Over 8.5 Rushing Yards (-112)
As mentioned, Jamison Crowder is expected to play tonight so at least Sam Darnold will have someone to throw the ball to. Denver’s secondary will give Crowder a lot of attention. When things break down, Sam may have to run in order to pick up a first down or two and keep drives going. Darnold had 5 carries in last week’s game for 20 yards. Nine rushing yards seems very attainable.
Noah Fant Over 44.5 Receiving Yards (-112)
An inexperienced quarterback’s best friend is always a tight end. Fant is a very competent receiver and should be utilized in this game. The Broncos will need to run the ball to keep the pressure off their young quarterback. The one thing that this Jets team is competent at is stopping the run. Expect the Denver offense to utilize the short passing game in order to move the ball. And when they throw the ball to their tight end as opposed to their wide receivers, it will reduce the risk of turning the ball over.
