Eagles sign Hakeem Butler

Dallas Goedert suffered a fracture in his ankle on Sunday against the Bengals and the team will place the tight end on IR, according to the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.

Goedert will be eligible to return to the field for the Eagles following the Week 6 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

The third-year tight end saw 18 targets through two-plus games this season. He caught 13 of those for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Eagles Sign Hakeem Butler, Convert Him to TE

The Eagles have claimed wide receiver Hakeem Butler off the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad. Butler, a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals last year, was listed as a tight end in the Eagles’ roster move announcement.

Butler never played a snap for the Cardinals as he missed his entire rookie season with a broken hand. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound pass-catcher failed to make the Arizona roster this year and was scooped up by the Panthers’ practice squad.

In his final season at Iowa State, Butler caught 60 passes for 1,318 yards and nine touchdowns. He then ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last year.

While Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz is the main guy at tight end, Butler can fill the void behind him, with Richard Rodgers handling blocking duties.

Butler may ultimately end up seeing snaps at wide receiver as well. Jalen Reagor (thumb), Alshon Jeffery (foot), and DeSean Jackson (hamstring) all are dealing with injuries.
