September 13 Update: Evans will play vs. the Saints. Evans warmed up and the Buccaneers liked what they saw from him, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com previously reported that the wide receiver is “likely” to play. Evans may be on a “pitch count,” however.
September 12: Evans has been upgraded to questionable. It’s possible and even likely that he won’t be 100 percent if he suits up.
September 11: Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans is doubtful for the team’s opener on Sunday.
Evans missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, though he was on the field with his teammates on Friday, according to multiple reports.
It’s not clear exactly what Evans’ level of participation was, though his designation doesn’t provide hope for him to play this week. Earlier in the week, coach Bruce Arians said Evans may be considered a game-time decision.
Tampa Bay takes on New Orleans on Sunday and if Evans misses the contest, Chris Godwin would be the team’s clear No. 1 wide receiver. Scotty Miller, who has earned the trust of Tom Brady, may also see an increased role.
