With less than a week for the 2020 season to begin for the Chicago Bears, they have placed kicker Eddy Pineiro on IR. Pineiro will be eligible to return after just three weeks, which should provide ample time to help overcome a groin injury.
Pineiro signed with the Raiders in 2018 after going undrafted. He was placed on injured reserve in September of that year and in May of 2019, he was traded to the Bears. He played in all 16 games and went 23-28 on field goals and 27-29 on extra points.
Chicago will turn to Cairo Santos, who was kept on the practice squad. Santos is an 80% field goal kicker in his six-year NFL career and has converted on 96.4% of his extra points.
He only played in five games last year with the Titans.
More From the NFC
- The New York Giants have waived former 2018 first round pick Deandre Baker. This move was to be expected after Baker was charged with four counts of armed robbery over the summer. He is currently on the Commisioner Exempt list, so don’t expect anybody to claim or sign him anytime soon.
- Jerry Jones says “Everything’s on go” for Cowboys safety Xavier Woods to play Sunday night in a showdown with the Rams. Woods has been dealing with a groin injury since August 30.
- Speaking of the Rams, head coach Sean McVay is optimistic that running back Darrell Henderson will join rookie Cam Akers and Malcolm Brown as part of a “three-back rotation.” Henderson has been hampered with a hamstring injury. Each of the three backs will look to stand out most as the season progresses.
