The Washington Football team doesn’t have the eye of many bettors this season, with the exception of individual accolades. One of those individuals is quarterback Alex Smith.

Washington named Dwayne Haskins the starter recently, but some bettors have thrown down some cash on Smith.

“Smith’s popularity in the market is especially interesting given the fact that Ron Rivera announced this week that Dwayne Haskins would start under center for Washington,’ Pete Watt of OddsChecker.com tells Pro Football Action.

Smith is listed at +700 odds (7-1) to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. Watt continued, “Sports bettors clearly believe that Smith’s story is so sensational that if he spends even a minute on the pitch this season then the award is his.”

After suffering such a gruesome leg injury two years ago, may believed that Smith was done playing football. However, he worked his tail off to get back on the gridiron which is one of the more heartfelt stories in the league.

How Does Adrian Peterson Fit Into the Gameplan?

Washington is projected to have five running backs on the opening day roster, led by future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson.

Peterson will get a bulk of the carries on early downs, which will take some of the load off of the second-year quarterback and the offensive line.

After Peterson, look for rookie Antonio Gibson and fifth-year man J.D. McKissic to be the third down backs as they can act as more of wide receivers which could bode well for Haskins.

Peyton Barber will likely backup Peterson with Bryce Love looking to get in the mix as well.
