The Patriots are leading the league in a stat they probably want no part of: players opting of the 2020 season. As our Opt-Out tracker shows, New England has five players choosing to sit out the upcoming because of COVID-19 concerns.
The most significant loss is arguably Dont’a Hightower. The Patriots walked Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins leave in free agency and now, the void at linebacker will be even harder to fill.
The Bears also take a tough loss as stud defensive tackle Eddie Goldman has decided not to play. Goldman has been a leader on the defensive line over the past few years.
Players who opt-out will essentially receive an advance of $150,000 (the exact language of the agreement has yet to be reported. The amount will then be deducted from the player’s pay the following season.
