The Kansas City Chiefs battle the Los Angeles Rams in the most anticipated game of the regular season. This contest was going to be played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City but the field was in horrible condition after concerts and soccer games, so the NFL deemed it unplayable Tuesday and moved it to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have won their last four games, including last Sunday’s 26-14 victory against the Arizona Cardinals. Patrick Mahomes completed 21 of 28 passes for 249 yards and two touchdown passes to Tyreek Hill. Mahomes’ second TD strike was his 31st and it helped him pass Hall of Famer Len Dawson for the single-season touchdown record with six games to play. Hill made seven receptions for 117 yards, Kareem Hunt ran for 71 yards and the defense came up with five sacks and two interceptions.
The Chiefs are averaging 305.5 passing yards (4th in the NFL) and 117.6 rushing yards (13th). Kansas City ranks 2nd with 35.3 points per game and 16th with 24.0 points against. Patrick Mahomes has passed for 3,150 yards, 31 touchdowns and seven interceptions, Kareem Hunt has 754 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 167 carries and Tyreek Hill has 55 receptions for 891 yards and nine touchdowns. Anthony Hitchens has 80 tackles and Dee Ford has nine sacks.
Los Angeles Rams
Brandin Cooks ran for a 9-yard touchdown on the first snap after Dante Fowler forced and recovered a Russell Wilson fumble with 5:49 left to help the Rams bounce back from their first loss of the season with a 36-31 win against the Seahawks last Sunday. Jared Goff completed 28 of 39 passes for 318 yards and two touchdowns and Cooks also made 10 receptions for 100 yards. Todd Gurley ran for 120 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries and now he has an NFL-best 17 touchdowns to extend his franchise-record of 13 straight games with a score.
The Rams are averaging 303.2 passing yards (5th in the NFL) and 144.8 rushing yards (2nd). Los Angeles ranks 3rd with 33.5 points per game and 12th with 23.1 points against. Jared Goff has passed for 3,134 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions, Todd Gurley II has 988 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 198 carries and Brandin Cooks has 51 receptions for 857 yards and three touchdowns. Cory Littleton has 83 tackles and Aaron Donald has 12.5 sacks.
The Kansas City Chiefs are:
6-0 ATS in their last six road games against a team with a winning home record
4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record
5-1 ATS in their last six Monday games
12-3 ATS in their last 15 games overall
11-3 ATS in their last 14 games on grass
7-2 ATS in their last nine games following a straight up win
20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games
9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following an ATS loss
The Los Angeles Rams are:
16-40-1 ATS in their last 57 games after allowing less than 150 passing yards in their previous game
8-23-1 ATS in their last 32 games after accumulating more than 250 passing yards in their previous game
3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games after allowing more than 150 rushing yards in their previous game
3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games in Week 11
1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall
0-5 ATS in their last five games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game
0-4 ATS in their last four games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game
The Chiefs have been very consistent this season and they’re outscoring their opponents by 17.5 points since their Week 6 43-40 loss against the Patriots. The Rams have worked harder for their 9-1 record and three of their last four wins were by five points or less.
Los Angeles has been shaky at best defensively over the last few weeks, with most of their games coming down to the wire and Kansas City has many weapons on offense and their defense has allowed 21 points or less in four of their last six games. Also keep in mind that the Rams suffered a major blow with the loss of wide receiver Cooper Kupp, so we’re getting more than a field goal with a talented, healthier team.
NFL Pick: Chiefs +3.5 (-115)
